چکیده
We construct a new hydrodynamic framework describing plastic deformations in electronic crystals. The accounts for pinning, phase, and momentum relaxation effects due to translational disorder, diffusion the presence of interstitials vacancies, strain plasticity dislocations. obtain mode spectrum correlation functions various regimes order identify signatures crystal phases. In particular, we show that proliferation dislocations de-pins spatially resolved conductivity until melts, after which point phase pinned liquid emerges. addition, exhibits competition between pinning effects, with damping rate some modes being controlled by pinning-induced plasticity-induced relaxation. find recently discovered damping-attenuation relation continues hold pinned-induced even also comment on experimental setups could probe plasticity. developed here is applicable large class physical systems including Wigner crystals, multicomponent charge density waves, ordinary

Modeling elastic and plastic deformations in nonequilibrium processing using phase field crystals.
A continuum field theory approach is presented for modeling elastic and plastic deformation, free surfaces, and multiple crystal orientations in nonequilibrium processing phenomena. Many basic properties of the model are calculated analytically, and numerical simulations are presented for a number of important applications including, epitaxial growth, material hardness, grain growth, reconstruc...
متن کاملHydrodynamics of polar liquid crystals.
Starting from a microscopic definition of an alignment vector proportional to the polarization, we discuss the hydrodynamics of polar liquid crystals with local C infinity v symmetry. The free energy for polar liquid crystals differs from that of nematic liquid crystals (D infinity h) in that it contains terms violating the n --> -n symmetry. First we show that these Z2-odd terms induce a gener...
متن کاملShear Strain Localization in Plastic Deformations
Shear instabilities in the form of shear bands are often observed during high speed, plastic deformations of metals. According to one theory, their formation is attributed to eeective strain-softening response, which results, at high strain rates, as the net outcome of the innuence of thermal softening on the, normally, strain-hardening response of metals. In order to test the core instability ...
متن کاملPlastic-embedded protein crystals.
Rapid vitrification followed by the replacement of the vitrified water by a solvent (freeze substitution) and then resin is a widely used procedure for preparing biological samples for electron microscopy. The resulting plastic-embedded samples permit convenient room-temperature sectioning (microtomy) and can yield well preserved cellular structures. Here this procedure has been applied to crys...
متن کاملScattering from sidewall deformations in photonic crystals
We present results from a new method for the solution of electromagnetic scattering from finite sets of twodimensional cylinders exhibiting sidewall deformations. Our model treats the sidewall deviation as a small perturbation on a circle; the response of a single cylinder to an arbitrary external field can then be calculated, and the interactions between the cylinders can be computed with a mu...
